In this essay Iacopo Lash analyzes the nuclear strategies of China and the Unites States, contrasting them with one another and also with the policies of other prominent nuclear powers, including North korea, Great Britain, France, and Russia. Specifically, he attempts to locate common ground between the Chinese and American strategies which could facilitate the adoption of a bilateral non-first-use agreement. In the process Mr. Lash provides an excellent summary of the current U.S. and Chinese nuclear postures, as well as the evolution of their underlying strategic priorities.
